Is it possible to regain access to KAFB?
The previously introduced 3-Way meeting with Sandia Labs representatives, USAF/KAFB representatives of the 377 Force Security Squadron and the Coronado Thunderbirds, hosting, was rescheduled and took place on 14 May 2024. The top level discussion topic was and remains: “Is it possible to regain access to KAFB? Since the abrupt termination of Coronado Thunderbirds’ KAFB access, many people have been working “behind the scenes” to reinstate KAFB access for Coronado Thunderbirds. The Coronado Thunderbirds continuing the lead for this effort, myself and an anonymous volunteer, two senior-level Sandia Labs employees attended the meeting and have since added one other Sandian to assist. Two 377th FSS Command officials were also present, representing themselves and their management who believe in this effort. Due to the sensitivity of this effort, and although names may have been previously mentioned, we wish to keep other 3-way team members in the background for now. The Coronado Thunderbirds representatives are working on an action item to develop an updated way forward to introduce an appeal for access to the Base and all MWR access. The other two groups are assisting in this effort, including suggestions and high-level guidance on this next step. Yes, the process is taking what seems like forever. Rest assured this group of interested individuals is determined to appeal the DoD policy that discontinued civilian Base access. When there is progress, it will be reported.
Remember – To volunteer for the board, please come to the Board Meeting on July 2, 2024, at Fiestas New Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, 4400 Carlisle Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107, back room.
